Ergonomic Mouse

The Speed-Link SL-6169 Ergonomic Mouse is a cross-platform compatible USB mouse that helps alleviate the symtoms of carpal tunnel, by changing the angle the hand holds the mouse. The design is not the extreme paradigm shift of some of the more radical alternatives. It is a very standard, 2-button plus scroll wheel design, but tilted up on it’s side - you don’t have to re-learn how to use a mouse with this one! I’ve been dealing with carpal tunnel issues in my right forearm for months now, and I have bought a half-dozen different ergonomic products - mice and trackballs - attempting to make things less painful. I even went so far as to take a piece of clay, and mold the shape that I thought would make the best mouse, expecting to have to figure out how to build it.

Well, I found one, that is almost exactly like the clay model. The near vertical twist of the mouse allows the hand to address the mouse more like a handshake, minimizing the twist in the forearm, and reducing strain. The 800 dpi optics track accurately, and the oversize scroll wheel is lit in a blue glow. The left side is a grippy rubber - a little hard for my taste, but your thumb does not slip around. Except for being a little taller than a regular mouse, it is actually smaller than many of the new mice hitting the market, and far more comfortable.

I have been using it for a day now, and the pain in my forearm seems to be far less than at the end of any recent day. At $24.50 (introductory price from the US importer, Medusa-USA), it was a bargain.
